[Eric] errors on opening a folder(e.g. new project -> project directory -> ...)

Did you configure a default file extension for opening and saving? Which one?

These are problems raised by KDE. Maybe some distribution specific setting is 
using some KDE dialogs when Qt dialogs are requested.
