Thank you for your advice.  Yes, that did solve the problem that has plagued 
me.  What a great program!  

Generally I am in favour of forks, but fail to understand why PyQt4 was forked 
by PyKDE4.  PyKDE4 web site tells that it is "not allways compatible with MS 
Windows".  As it also interferes with PyQt4, it does adversely affect KDE 
IMHO.  I do not think that it is possible to uninstall PyKDE4 from a KDE 
desktop environment as it appears that KDE desktop depends on PyKDE4 in some 
aspects.

Personally, I will probably move away from the KDE desktop to gnome, to 
"standard" ubuntu.
