problem no longer occurs! <br>

though, I have some other questions; I'll put those in a
separate thread so its discoverable by others. If I ever figure
out what about the old config was causing the problem, I'll

Could this be an inconsistency between Qr/PyQt and the Ubuntu
installed TLS library. Unfortunately I don’t have an Ubuntu 16.04
system around anymore but haven’t seen such an issue in the past.

Could this be debugger trying to connect to localhost
or something? I'm on Ubuntu 16.04, and up to date
(including openssl) for that version.</p>
