I have been calling it other things lately, but nothing very
marketable :)
I chose PyKDE2 to try to minimize confusion with the original PyKDE
(for KDE1) which is no longer supported. PyKDE2 *is* still
supported for all 'official' KDE releases from KDE 2.1.1 forward
and will continue to be for the forseeable future (beta, RC and
alpha versions aren't supported though, including the recent
3.0beta2, which won't be supported in the next release). I should
probably drop the '2' and just go back to PyKDE, as either PyKDE2 or
PyKDE3 would be misleading.
Having given it considerable thought (at least 30 seconds since I
finished the previous sentence), I think the next release will be:
PyKDE-3.2.1rc1
because:
- it supports KDE versions from 2.1.1 through 3.0
- it requires sip/PyQt 3.2.1 (3.2 will probably work too)
- there will only be a single tarball which will build for any
supported KDE version. This seems to be working fairly well at
the moment on my systems, but the 'rc1' is hedging against the
possibility that there will be build problems for people not
using SuSE Linux 7.1, 7.3 or 8.0. (I hope not)
I'm dropping the beta, but there's still a lot that needs testing.
Or maybe I'll try PyKDE3000. PyKDE-XP?
Jim
