Boudwijn,
I just wanted to drop a quick line to you (and the rest of the mailing list)
about the book you authored on Qt Programming With Python. The book reads
easy. I have a VB background and your book helps out with learning Qt and
showing the ins and outs on it. I thought Linux GUI stuff would be a lot
harder than it is, and your book is most helpful. I had printed off large
portions of it at work, but after referencing it for a couple nights I
decided to get the hard copy. I hope it hits a wider circulation. It's a
great purchase. Thank you for writing it!
After about a month of dabbling with Python and Qt, I'm finding that I really
like the combination. Python is extremely succinct and was real easy to pick
up, and I am amazed at how well it performs given its ease of use. Qt also
responds well and the two make a great combination. I'm working on a game in
my spare time which will obviously be open source (a variation of the old
Avalon Hill game Rail Baron - I need to verify that I can do such a thing
with the game's current owners) and it is coming along possibly faster than
if I were using VB. I don't know if anyone on this list uses Komodo, but it
is a fairly reliable and slick IDE which, when given a quick shortcut to the
Qt Designer pretty much trumps Black Adder.
Thanks one and all for managing this list and answering questions. I haven't
had any yet, but the responsiveness is impressive. Most commercial vendors
we deal with at work are nowhere near as quick at getting back to someone and
the ego level is considerably lower here.
Thanks again,
Jack
