[PyQt] Tracking down a random segfault inside QMetaObject::activate(QObject*, int, int, void**)

I just found that the crash doesn't occur on Windows 10 1703 64-bit with
Python 3.6.1 32-bit and the accompanying Qt 5.8.2 32-bit from PyPi. So
this seems to be a platform-specific issue? Anyone know where to go from
here?
