[PyKDE] Deleting QCanvasItems

I'm wondering how to remove items from a QCanvas and destroy them with PyQt. 
  In the Qt documentation it says there's a method ~QCanvasItem() that does 
that, but I don't know how to run that in Python, since there's a "~" at the 
start.  Could anybody help me?
