As you can see I'm going through my backlog of QScintilla issues :)

I agree that what you suggest is preferable to the current behaviour (and it's 
what SciTE does), but I had lots of trouble getting it to work properly 
across platforms. I'd rather leave it as it is - not perfect, but working.
