This is Ubuntu Maverick (pyqt 4.7.4, sip4 4.10.5).

Yes - I'm usually restricted to what distributions include in their recent 
releases.

Ubuntu Lucid still includes a PyQt version which does a core dump on program 
exit and don't bother to fix it - it's what they call "Long Term Support" 
(presumably for bugs).
